The Yorkshire Terrier is a tiny dog, usually 2 to 3 kg, with a confident, feisty terrier character. Yorkies are loyal and quick to learn, but they can be bossy with bigger dogs and bark at visitors. They are well suited to apartments and need short walks and daily play.

The silky coat grows long and needs brushing every day. Many UAE owners ask a groomer for a short puppy clip, which is easier to keep clean in the heat. Walk early or late in summer, check that the pavement is not too hot for small paws, keep the dog in air conditioning and never leave it in a car. Use a harness rather than a collar for walks, since small dogs can be sensitive around the neck. Teeth, kneecaps and the windpipe are common worries in small breeds, so for those, ask your vet.

See the puppy in person (and its mother, if you buy from a breeder) and look at the vaccination card and microchip number. Your dog should be microchipped, have its rabies and core vaccinations and be registered with your municipality or emirate. On AnimalMarket24, asking prices have mostly been between AED 7,000 and AED 9,000. Adoption is another option, and adoption fees should be modest.
