The Golden Retriever is a friendly, gentle and eager dog, usually 25 to 34 kg. Goldens love people, get along with children and other pets, and are easy to train. They also stay playful and mouthy for the first couple of years and dislike being left alone for long, so they need company, daily exercise and something to carry in their mouths.
The long double coat sheds all year and needs brushing several times a week. In the UAE heat, walk at dawn or after sunset, keep the dog in air conditioning during the day and never leave it in a car. A groomer can thin the coat, but ask before using clippers. Swimming is a good way to cool off where it is safe, and the ears should be dried afterwards. Big breeds can have hip and elbow problems, so ask to see the parents’ scores and ask your vet.
See the puppy in person (and its mother, if you buy from a breeder) and check the vaccination card and microchip number. Your dog should be microchipped, have its rabies and core vaccinations and be registered with your municipality or emirate. On AnimalMarket24, prices vary a lot, so compare a few ads before you decide. Adoption is also an option, as adult Goldens and Golden crosses sometimes need new homes, and adoption fees should be modest.
