Discus

Discus are round, colourful cichlids from the Amazon, often called the king of the aquarium. Popular strains include pigeon blood, blue diamond, red turquoise and leopard snakeskin. They are peaceful but sensitive fish that do best in groups of five or more in a tall, stable tank of 200 litres or more.

Discus need warm, very clean water of about 28 to 30 °C and are not a good first fish. Plan for frequent water changes with dechlorinated water that matches the tank temperature, good filtration and a varied diet of quality pellets, frozen bloodworm and beef heart mixes. Keep tank mates calm and small, and avoid fish that nip fins.

Ask the seller about the size, age, strain and current water settings, and check that the fish eat well and swim upright with clear eyes and no dark colour or hiding. Selling discus in the UAE? Post a free ad on AnimalMarket24 with photos, sizes and the strain, and buyers can contact you directly.
