Bearded Dragons

Bearded dragons are calm, curious lizards from Australia and one of the most popular pet reptiles. They grow to about 45 to 60 cm, live 10 years or more and usually enjoy being handled once they are used to you. Colour morphs such as hypo, translucent and leatherback are common.

A bearded dragon needs a vivarium of at least 120 cm long with a warm basking spot of about 38 to 42 °C at one end and a cooler side, plus a strong UVB light that you replace as the maker advises, because UV is essential for healthy bones. Air conditioning in UAE homes can make the cool side too cold at night, so check the temperatures with a thermometer. Young dragons eat mostly live insects; adults eat more greens and vegetables. Dust insects with calcium.
