Iguanas

Green iguanas are large herbivorous lizards that can reach 1.5 metres or more including the tail and live 15 to 20 years. Small, bright green babies are often sold cheaply, but an adult needs a very large enclosure and an owner ready for a long commitment. With patient, regular handling, many iguanas become calm, but adult males can turn territorial during the breeding season.

Iguanas need a tall, warm enclosure with a basking area of about 35 °C, strong UVB lighting and high humidity. They are strict plant eaters: feed dark leafy greens, squash and some fruit, never meat or insects, and add a calcium supplement. Poor lighting or diet quickly leads to metabolic bone disease.
