Akita

The Akita is a large, powerful and dignified dog, usually 32 to 45 kg. It is loyal and calm with its own family but reserved with strangers, and it may not get along with other dogs. Akitas are strong-willed, so they suit experienced owners who can provide early socialisation and firm, patient training.

The thick double coat sheds heavily, especially in the seasonal change, so expect regular brushing. In the UAE, keep the dog in air conditioning during the day, walk only in the coolest hours and never leave it in a car or outside in the sun. An apartment can work only with serious daily exercise. Large breeds can have joint problems, so for hips, knees and weight, ask your vet.
