Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is a friendly, outgoing and eager-to-please dog, usually 25 to 36 kg. Labs are good with families and other pets, but they are strong, mouthy as puppies and full of energy for the first couple of years. They need daily exercise and training, and they love water and food in equal measure.

In the UAE heat, walk early in the morning or after sunset and keep midday for resting in the cool. Swimming is a good way to burn energy where it is safe and the water is clean, but rinse and dry the ears afterwards. The short, dense coat sheds all year, so brush weekly. An apartment can work if the dog gets long daily walks. Labradors gain weight easily, and large breeds can have hip and elbow problems, so ask to see the parents’ scores and ask your vet.

See the puppy in person (and its mother, if you buy from a breeder) and check the vaccination card and microchip number. Your dog should be microchipped, have its rabies and core vaccinations and be registered with your municipality or emirate. On AnimalMarket24, asking prices have mostly been between AED 4,500 and AED 9,000. Adoption is also an option for Labradors and Lab crosses, and adoption fees should be modest. Confirm the dog is still available before you travel to see it.
