Poodle

The Poodle comes in toy, miniature and standard sizes, so ask which one you are looking at and how big the parents are. Poodles are clever, lively and quick to learn, and they enjoy training games. They are loyal to their family and can be reserved with strangers. Toy and miniature Poodles suit apartments well, while standard Poodles need more room and exercise.

Poodles shed very little, but the curly coat grows constantly and needs brushing most days, plus a professional clip every few weeks. A shorter clip is practical in UAE summers. Walk early or late, keep the dog in air conditioning during the day and never leave it in a car. Check the pavement before walking, as small paws burn quickly. Ears, eyes and teeth need regular care, and some lines have joint or eye problems, so before you buy, ask your vet.

See the puppy in person (and its mother, if you buy from a breeder), and ask to see the vaccination card and microchip number. Your dog should be microchipped, have its rabies and core vaccinations and be registered with your municipality or emirate. On AnimalMarket24, prices vary a lot, partly because of the different sizes, so compare a few ads before you decide. Adoption is also an option, and adoption fees should be modest.
